WORK IS LIMITED!

  

 

A handyman is NOT allowed to do the following construction work:

 

- Work requiring a building permit: Roofing, Roofing Repairs, Skylights, Electrical, Plumbing,  

                                                       Pools, Water Heater, Air Conditioning/Heat,  

- Project valued at $1,000.00 or more.

- Work affecting structural components: Moving a wall, Additions,

- Work involving toxic or hazardous chemicals or substances: Asbestos, Lead Paint,

- Work affecting access or egress to a structure: Doors or Windows

- Work affecting accommodations for the physically disabled.

- Work affecting life-safety as defined in building codes.

 

It is against the law for a handyman to advertise that he or she is a contractor or qualified to engage in construction contracting.

 

For any of the work listed above, you need to hire a Licensed Florida Contractor.

 

You can check to see if your contractor is licensed and in good standing by going to www.myfloridalicense.com and selecting “verify a license”

 

You can check to see if the work needed requires a building permit by contacting your local (city or county) building department – they can usually answer the question quickly over the telephone.
